The Fraser File: Fun With ASL Writing

Deafinitions:

deaf: lacking or deficient in the sense of hearing. (Merriam-Webster)

Deaf: a deaf person who is culturally deaf and uses sign langauge to communicate. Not in any dictionary I can find. Let's add it! (Fraser Deafinition)

CODA: a child of Deaf parent/s. For most of us, sign language is our native language, and what makes us so weird and wonderful! (Fraser Deafinition)

Audism: "The notion that one is superior based on one's ability to hear or to behave in the manner of one who hears." Tom Humphries, Communicating across cultures (deaf-hearing) and language learning.

In other words.... "What? You're deaf? Oh, I'm so sorry to hear that...", or the other 18 million examples of this I can think of right now. Please, if you see this, stomp it out! And can we please put this word in the English dictionary. The practice of it is older than the written word for cryin' out loud!!!!!
